Retail Technology Manager

Summary

Under the direction of the Director or Associate Director of Information Technology, this position oversees the administration, integration, coordination, and secure configuration of retail technology solutions that support a diverse range of enterprise business and information systems. Responsibilities include managing customer-facing and institution-connected technologies such as point-of-sale (POS) platforms, e-commerce applications, payment card compliance initiatives, identification card systems, reservation platforms, and related technologies. The role is focused on delivering innovative, customer-centered technology solutions, enabling efficient business operations, fostering collaborative partnerships across departments, and maintaining a strong security posture consistent with industry standards and organizational best practices.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee the administration and support of retail systems, ensuring timely resolution of issues related to point-of-sale, e-commerce, inventory management, and identification card systems, including installation, operation, integration, and reporting functions across multiple organizational locations.
  • Supervise staff responsible for configuring and maintaining customer accounts, meal plans, transaction records, payment tenders, and related system components.
  • Ensure retail reporting platforms are configured to meet the operational, financial, and analytical needs of various departments and stakeholders.
  • Evaluate, implement, and support emerging technologies that enhance enterprise operations and customer experiences, including solutions such as contactless payments, mobile ordering, and biometric technologies.
  • Coordinate deployment and support of card access and POS equipment for special events, including attendance tracking and remote transaction processing.
  • Maintain the security, integrity, and compliance of POS, credit card, and gift card systems managed by the organization.
  • Provide training and guidance to operational staff regarding standard operating procedures, transactional systems, and routine troubleshooting of hardware and peripheral devices.
  • Manage vendor contracts, pricing updates, system settings, and configuration changes within retail technology platforms.
  • Lead technology implementation and upgrade projects involving internal IT teams, operational departments, external vendors, and business stakeholders.
  • Prepare and coordinate requests for quotations (RFQs), conduct product evaluations, and provide written recommendations regarding technology products and services.
  • Direct user access management processes for POS systems while ensuring adherence to payment card industry (PCI) and information security requirements.
  • Generate and analyze transaction data and reporting related to POS and card system activities as needed.
  • Supervise routine maintenance and support of POS and card system hardware, peripherals, and related equipment while minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Assess and improve business processes through ongoing analysis of critical systems and support the design, implementation, and maintenance of technology solutions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Provide support for workstations, servers, network devices, and related infrastructure that enable business operations, as required.
  • Stay informed of applicable federal and state regulations, governing policies, industry trends, and best practices, and contribute to the continuous improvement of IT services.
  • Assist with budget monitoring and expenditure management to maximize the value of technology investments and vendor partnerships.
  • Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives that support organizational objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises a combination of full-time, part-time, and student employees. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, work assignment, employee development, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable employment laws.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience in retail technology, information systems, business applications, or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Relevant industry certifications are highly desirable.

Technical Skills

Candidates should possess working knowledge of:

  • Ethernet networking technologies
  • Microsoft Windows Server and desktop operating systems
  • Microsoft 365 applications
  • Microsoft SQL databases
  • VMware virtualization platforms

Preferred qualifications include experience with:

  • Point-of-sale (POS) applications and administration
